Technical Milestones
NTF published ntp-4.2.8p10, an NTP security update, on March 21st. The update includes 6 medium-severity and 4 low-severity security fixes, along with 15 minor bug fixes and some small improvements.
Significant progress has been made with new Extension Field processing, which will allow NTF to integrate the work done on NTS (Network Time Security) – the replacement for Autokey – and provide a number of planned, new Extension Fields.
Harlan Stenn, Bruce Korb, Danny Mayer, Sue Graves and Richard Welty participated in several NTS development meetings, as well as multiple IETF ntpwg (NTP Working Group) meetings.
Harlan Stenn submitted several drafts to the IETF for Extension Fields and NTS-related code work.
Significant work was completed in preparation for the early 2018 release of ntp-4.2.8p11, and work has begun for the pending 2018 release of ntp-4.4.
LinuxPTP made a number of minor bug fixes and added many new features to the November 2016 1.8 release. Notable new features include:

Notable Achievements & Developments
Volunteers brought several servers and network switches online at ServerCentral in Chicago, IL; Fremont, CA; and Talent, OR.
In January, Koni Burrow joined as NTF Social Media Manager.
In March, NTF conducted a survey to encourage input from members about improving NTF services and communications. We learned there is a desire for a closer working relationship with our organization that includes more educational and informational outreach. As a result, we’re posting more to our blog and having more frequent discussions with our Institutional Members.
In April, Mark Graff joined our Board of Directors.
In May, NTF delivered reports for our third annual financial audit to Richard Brewster, CPA.
In June, we redesigned our website to be more mobile-friendly and responsive.
Also in June, NTF received a large donation of used hardware from Automattic, which is being reconfigured and will be put into service by Harlan and Joe Greco, one of our volunteers.
In September, Laura LeHew (Administrative Management) and Victoria Sage (Special Projects) joined NTF. Sue Graves stepped down from her role as Director of Client Experience and is now helping us on a “special projects” basis.
Also in September, we received our audited financial statements from Richard W. Brewster, CPA, PC, and the draft of our IRS 990 from Randy Jentzsch & Co., CPA.
We welcomed nine new volunteers in 2017.
Revenue
Facebook, Cox Communications, Nimbus/Alibaba Group and PublicNTP became new NTP Consortium Institutional members.
Yahoo!, BlueCoat/Symantec, Infoblox, Meinberg, Microsemi, Orolia and an anonymous large corporation renewed their NTP Consortium Institutional memberships.
36 people became new or renewed NTF Individual Members.
NTF received a total of $4,000.00 from several one-time individual donors.
A total of $1,500.00 was received from various matching gift programs.
NTF was accepted as a participant in the Combined Federal Campaign for a second year.
A $10,000 Mozilla Grant was awarded to NTF to partially defray the costs of the ntp-4.2.8p10 security release.
In June, Linux Foundation/CII reallocated the $36,000 they didn’t spend on Ntimed last year and gave it to NTF for Network Time Security (NTS) development work, paid over three months. The final payment was made in August, 2017.
PublicNTP joined NTF as an NTP Consortium Institutional Member, and we are jointly collaborating to promote PublicNTP’s services around the globe.
Donations of In-kind Services and Support
NTF received an “in-kind” grant from Google for $10,000 per month in AdWords.
sol.net Network Services donated network engineering services and hardware.
Markley Group renewed our hosting agreement for our New England datacenter.
ServerCentral, now Deft, renewed our hosting agreement for our Midwest datacenter.
Oregon State University continues to host virtual servers for NTF in their world-class Open Source Lab.
Throughout Q4, PublicNTP assisted us by volunteering to upgrade our WordPress-based website, which is now delivered via AWS Cloudfront, a Content Delivery Network.

time across the network, while producing the quality, secure, robust and reliable open source software necessary to make that happen.
